Civilisation - Beyond Earth Announced

For the last decade the PC gaming world has been crying out for something spectacular, something that we've all been crossing our fingers and toes for Firaxis and 2K Games to make. And now, it's finally happening.

No it's not the sequel to Alpha Centurai, which quite frankly would have cause enough gamers to squeal in delight for Obi Wan Kenobi to hear through time and space in that galaxy far, far away but it is space based...

For announced at Pax East this weekend was Civilisation: Beyond Earth. Yes, we will be able to take our hexagon based turn based strategies beyond the Earth, into the vast unkonown and colonise, battle and (if you're anything like me) spend hundreds of hours ruling with an iron fist and crushing anything slightly different to yourselves. And personally, I cannot wait for the projected fall release later this year.

Will Miller, co-lead designer on the Beyond Earth project has said "The heart and soul lives on at Firaxis. For all the fans of Alpha Centurai, this is the game we've made for you."

David McDonough, the other co-lead on the project said that "The biggest systematic change for Civ 5 is that tech is a web, not a tree," and asdded "By the end of the game you've got 70 percent of the web." Which hinted at some kind of endgame content.

We were also teaserd wit the fact that the game will see players forming thir own their cultural identities and building colonies before exploring their new world and that gamers will be able to embark on (the new to the series) quest missions in order to learn about their new planet.

Get ready to boldly go wher no Civ has gone before this fall and we'll have more on the gameas we hear it. But for now, check out the announcement trailer below.
