Iconic Shooter "Shadow Warrior" gets a reboot

Anyone else remember the totally un-PC game Shadow Warrior? It was originally released in 1997 for the Build Engine by 3D Realms, not long after Duke Nukem 3D. A completely tongue-in-cheek, ultra-violent shooter, Shadow Warrior was both fun and funny.

It was also controversial, as it used a lot of over-the-top stereotypes of Asians- for just one example, when you found a secret area, the main character would chuckle "Ancient Chinese secret!"

I played Shadow Warrior for days on end, enjoying both the single-player campaign and the multiplayer mode. The game was sort of the Saints Row of its time in some ways, featuring not only over-the-top action and dialogue, but weapons also.

I mean, come on- the game had a portable nuclear bomb. That was awesome. And holy shit did it piss people off when you used it in multiplayer. Trololol indeed.

Here's an example of gameplay and the nuke rocket on YouTube.

So, I just found out that Flying Wild Hog (makers of Hard Reset) has just released a new version of Shadow Warrior, totally updated for 2013.

I took one look at it on Steam and said...

I... NEEED... IT!

I haven't played it yet but it's looking to have gotten great reviews so far, and it's definitely on my list to get. The gameplay looks solid, the graphics sexy, and- let's face it- the cheesy VO is the best part.

BRRRIIINNNGGGGG. BRRRINNNNGGGGG.
