New this week on Indie Saturday Premiere - Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow Comes Today

The first title of the Dead Synchronicity series from Fictorama Studios features a 2D point and click adventure / puzzle game. The game play features not only dystopian overtones but pays homage to classic adventure games like Day of the Tentacle or Broken Sword with a more mature theme along the lines of Sanitarium. The developers are also keeping to the "open-world" experience and HD cutscenes which, for now, will have text in English and Spanish. Other languages as well as a Linux version and more are listed on their Kickstarter Stretch Goals.

The storyline for DS is a terrible pandemic that is turning all of humanity into the Dissolved - the sick whose deliria provide them with supernatural cognitive powers but also steers them towards a gruesome death.  The root of this illness seems to be the Great Wave, an inexplicable chain of natural disasters that destroyed all energy sources and communications and plunged the world into a chaos ruthlessly controlled by both the authorities and the army alike. The player will have to help Michael, a man with no past, recover his identity and decode the events that brought the world to the edge of collapse. Because, if Michael doesn’t hurry, he won’t be able to avoid the impending moment of dead synchronicity… when Time itself dissolves.

I caught up with Producer, PR Manager and barista extroidinaire Luis Olivan earlier this week:

What was your inspiration behind Dead Synchronicity?

We've been Influenced by Joseph Conrad, Phillip K. Dick, Tarkovski, Terry Gilliam, terror movies from the 70s and 80s (including Italian giallo)… and all those great point and click adventures we enjoyed during the 90s, and we still enjoy today.

With Dead Syncronicity being the first installment of the series, how many are you planning to release?

We have the whole story written, including most of the puzzles. At the beginning, we were quite sure we were going to release two installments, but lately we’ve realized that there’s a set of locations so breath-taking and intriguing -both from an aesthetic and narrative point of view- that taking the most of it would require a whole game. I can’t tell you more about them without including “spoilers”!

So, depending on how the Kickstarter goes, and how the first installment do… we could expand the “Dead Synchronicity” universe to three installments… or go with the two initially planned.

Will these be released as downloaded content or will they be stand alone games?

The installments will be released as stand alone games. In fact, the player won’t need to play them all to enjoy each game… although those who do so, will enjoy the plot much more.

Will we be following the same storyline or will there be new threats to be overcome?

The axis of the whole story will be Michael, the main character, and his search for his own identity… while he tries to unravel the “the Great Wave” catastrophe and the “dissolved” pandemic. However, in each installment Michael will meet new characters, face new puzzles, visit new locations… in the dark, insane “Dead Synchronicity”realm.

Right now you have a "demo" alpha version once you reach your Kickstarter goal will you be closing that alpha and move into a closed beta?

Right now we are focused 100% on the Kickstarter campaign. We think we are making a very interesting, moving game, and the feedback is being awesome. We really hope more and more people will enjoy the demo and support us both on Kickstarter and Steam Greenlight.

Almost every of tier of our campaign (from $35 and up) include access to alphas and betas; so, be sure that, if our campaign succeeds and we are able to go on with “Dead Synchronicity: Tomorrow comes Today”, we will release more alphas and betas on a regular basis.

Do you have an estimated release date?

Our goal is to release both PC and Mac versions in 2014, and the iOS version in 2015.

Their goal for Kickstarter is set at $45,000 which will provide additional voice acting, studio expenses till game is finished, Unity engine licenses to name a few. Famed Spanish artist Azpiri designed the/ game sleeve for Dead Synchronicity and they are offering an original Azpiri illustration for one lucky and loaded Kickstart backer. They also have a greenlight campaign going for Steam so drop by and cast your vote.
