New this week on Indie Saturday Premiere - Last Knight: Rogue Edition

This Steam Early Access game comes from Toco Games. Described as an over the top jousting action game set in a brutal fantasy world. It comes with bucketloads of content and is inspired by games like Crash Bandicoot.

In Last Knight it is a tradition, around Easter, to worship the mighty bunny gods by wearing bunny masks and then smash each other in jousting duels to death. (Think of it as sacrificing in a fun way) Also, hunting for all kinds of eggs is important as well! For full event details click:

I had a chance to catch up with David Hagemann from Toco Games:

You mention "chivalry can unlock world bending mutators and different view modes like the intense first person view". Once these are unlocked are they available during any play session / mode?

The 3 game modes, story, endless and rogue rider are clearly splitted in 3 parts of the game. The chivalry and the things that it unlocks is only for the endless journey part. The view modes however can also be unlocked in the story mode where they are different campaigns, it is then another level of challenge to complete all the levels in first person and get the awards for it. World bending mutators make a appearance in the story knightmare levels where they are used to create dream like endless levels where you only can wake up through dieing in the dream. Knightmare sequences are also planned for the Rogue Rider mode, because Knights need to sleep too on their adventures.

Can you tell me a little more about the collision system in game.

The collision system includes a lot of feedback for the player. When the player scratches a obstacle the ragdoll animation of the character clearly shows it and he will even leave a mark on the obstacle which can also be dented inn and distorted. There are also destructible things, like trees that can build bridges over rivers through knocking them over. Wood bridges that can break down through jumping on them or also through thunderbolts which can be devastating when you just rider over one. Furthermore there are glowy mushrooms in your way in the cave, graveyard gates, wooden targets and mines that can be jousted to make a way. Here is a video that shows the "Touching the world has an impact" feature more clearly:

You mentioned upcoming features that are being worked on like shopping and customization. Will these be available in all modes of gameplay or just in the rogue rider adventure mode?

Customization is already there in the Endless mode, where you can pick rider, horse and lance when you have unlocked them. There are also randomly generated hats and now randomly generated bunny masks that you can find in the world. For the Rogue Rider mode there is then also gear planned. There will be no actual health but armor is planned that can be destroyed through scratching obstacles, so when you then scratch a obstacle with a destroyed armor it will already kill you. This however is then only for the rogue mode. The rogue mode should be really hard and checkpoints will be never a part of it. It really should give you that intense feeling that perma death can always be a split second away. There is then also food that you have to eat since you will starve relativly quick then. It can then be found and purchased while too much food will make the rider or the horse explode. Also planned are randomly generated hats that have magical abilities, like perks of RPG items.

There is now also new a Unreal Engine showcase with Last Knight, it gives a nice condensed look behind the game.

Caught my set but missed the key handout then head over to their Steam page to pick it up.
