A recently released, highly addicting single player Steam game that was created by Magiko Gaming and publisher Namco Bandai. Platform Mines is described as "a unique 2D platformer packed with exploration, RPG and shooter elements, set in a vast 16-bit underground world! Customise your character, master all difficulty levels and literally jump to the top of the leaderboards to prove your skills."
I love the customization options that they have given you. You're able to change the hair, nose, mouth, clothing and even the gender of your toon which is a freshing change. There are also some customization options that can increase your statistics such as wigs, hats etc that are found throughout the world.
You have access to a bank, a store to sell items to, a way to save your game as often as you like and incase you're like me and need the occasional helping hand you can visit Master Tipman. Your weapons can easily be toggled thru in the HUD and you can compare the stats of your equipped weapon and any you pick up. Some of the mobs I have encountered are bats, flying eyeballs, NPC's and sawblades to name a few.
Movement around the world is by portals which you find as your exploring the mines. You're goal is to rebuild "Robodig" so you can escape the mines. You do this by using either a block builder or a block remover weapon that is available when you enter the Robodig areas.
I had a chance to catch up with Cedric from Magiko Gaming:
I love the customization options you've put in game and I see you are able to find more throughout the world. Are these items able to have their appearance customized as well?
The only color customization is in the beginning when creating your character.
Will there be an option for player created content through Steam at a future date?
We are not planning to add player created content at this time.
Can you tell us anything about future content for the game and will a multiplayer mode be available?
Sure, the content that could be added to the game would be new enemies as well as new scenaric rooms (with tight gameplay inside, as in our previous games "Platformance"). As for multiplayer there are no plans at this time to add it into the game.
Steam has it on sale for $4.99 which is 50% off the regular price of $9.99 and you can use your keyboard or a contoller. There are also Leaderboards to see how you stack up against other players and Steam Trading Cards.
