New this week on Indie Saturday Premiere - Visceral Cleanup Detail

This week's ISP game comes from the guys at RuneStorm and it's currently in Steam Early Access. Visceral Cleanup Detail is from the unique perspective of the janitor after a bloody battle in space has ensued. Armed with your trusty mop and bucket (and a few other weapons) you have the choice of cleaning it all up or making more of a mess (I'd suggest saving your gameplay before the chaos ensues!).

Game play choices are single or multiplayer although they are still ironing out the kinks in multiplayer. When you purchase VCD you will not only receive Early Access but it includes their 2 spinoff games VCD: Shadow Warrior and VCD: Santa's Revenge.

I had a chance to catch up with the very busy guys at Runstorm:

What was the inspiration behind Viscera Cleanup Detail?
VCD was born from the post-release depression/trouble surrounding Rooks Keep. RK was a 2.5 year project that was fairly troubled. It was our first game and we set out with the intention of actually making a finished game (we'd only made mods up to that point).

One day, about two weeks after RK was released and failing to gather any attention, we were sitting around the dinner table, just thinking. We were throwing around all kinds of crazy ideas, some of them just so bizarre simply for the sake of attention grabbing :P But at one point, I brought up the idea of being someone who has to clean up after the messes in sci-fi or horror movies/games. The idea immediately made sense amongst the three of us, and ideas for it were springing up like wildfire. So that night we set to work on it.

Game play from the aspect of a cleanup crew is so unique what prompted taking your game in that direction?
I think it just made sense within the world. The corporations/government of the future would hire this crew, which are veterans/adept at this, to come and clean up these horrific events. It's almost like everyone expects these things to happen, like is just some everyday thing that needs to be prepared for. It's taking a very dry, mundane look at these events from the opposite angle of the gun and hero.

There are currently two spin-offs that are offered with preorders can you tell me a little about each of them?

VCD: Shadow Warrior was something Devolver Digital approached us to do because they really loved the idea of VCD. Basically, you're a cleaner who has to clean up after Lo Wang's iconic first battle in the game. It was interesting for us, having never worked with anyone before and seeing things from the publisher side.

VCD: Santa's Rampage was one of many ideas or scenarios that we concocted following conception of VCD, some of which may still create ;) In VCD:SR, you get to clean up after Santa went on the rampage at his workshop. All the stresses of his job finally got to him and he cracked. Badly. You're one of the VCD guys that needs to get in there and rectify the situation; make it ready for a new Santa Tongue Out

Is there an ETA for release?
We're hoping for two months, depending largely and the time it takes to complete the environments (all me!) and any gameplay that goes with them.
