This weeks ISP band comes at you from Charlotte North Carolina. Winning the May Featured Artist of the Month from Johnny 'Cutt Promotions these guys are racking up the miles with local shows throughout the Carolinas. With the mix of gritty vocals and heavy beats it's easy to see how they rose to the top of the competition.
I had a chance to catch up with guitarist Jason McCoig:
What brought you guys together as a band?
First and foremost James (drums) and Joel (guitar) met through a mutual friend, Preston Lee Ward (R.I.P. brother). James and Joel were talking for months over cold brews about starting a band up in Prestons memory. After two or three times of playing together Joel mentioned that another guitarist was needed if the band was actually going to take shape and James mentioned a long time friend of his from high school and past projects ( Me ).
Because of the style of music im accustomed to playing, James thought my melodies would blend well with Joels fast paced riffs. After two or three weeks of playing together and songs taking shape, it was decided that we needed to start searching for a vocalist and a bassist. The search ended with only one person in mind for both slots. Josh had previously sang in a band for James, and we all knew that his vocals would match the material we had been writing due to his wide range of vocals. Tommy had actually been the drummer for every band Preston and Joel had ever been in, and he's also one of the best guitarists we know so it only made since that since this band started in memory of Preston that Tommy would be brought in.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Other than Preston, our inspiration draws from many different places for each different member but one inspiration we all agree on is all the other local bands and unsigned bands we play with. These guys pour their hearts and soul into their music, and theres nothing better than a local show.
